I have been praying for the young Nigerian school girls kidnapped by the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram. A new video surfaced showing the a group of girls dressed in head scarves and long gowns that cover their bodies but show their faces. The young women are praying and seated cross-legged. One of the young girls is shown reciting the Quran; three expresses their allegiance to Islam; two have converted from Christianity.
The video shows the girl with new threats to “sell them” and “hold them as slaves” until Boko Haram members are released from prison.
It is the first glimpse the public has gotten of the young women who were kidnapped on April 14 from a school in Chibok, an isolated village some 80 miles from this regional capital in Nigeria’s far northeast, where an Islamist insurgency has bedeviled the authorities for years.
Let’s keep these young girls in our thoughts and prayers.
