A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court. I did not know what I was going to experience on the show; would it be off the chain with people fighting and distraught babies? I decided to be totally open and just enjoy the experience. I arrived to court and was surrounded by people from all walks of life. The room was full of chatter as people arrived to see a case play out in front of Judge Lauren Lake while others whispered about the case that just completed. I could not help but feel excitement as I sat on the second row on the Plaintiffs side. What a fun lunch break!
As a girl who works during the day; I was unfamiliar with Paternity Court. My father chuckled when I told him that I was attending it as a fun lunch date. He said,
“Girl get ready to see just about anything!”
As I sat there I could not wait to see my first case and wondered about the Judge. Would she be nice? Would she be mean? Would the guests be CRAZY? When Judge Lauren Lake entered the room I noticed she was pretty fashionable. She wore a pretty pink blouse under her judicial robe, her make up and hair was pretty, and her heels were nice!
I had the opportunity to sit through two cases and watch Judge Lake show gentleness and compassion to her guests. She gave them an opportunity to tell their stories, offered advice when needed, compassion when needed, a reprimand, when needed. Some of the cases were really sad; but she assured her guests that they could get pass the obstacles and lead better lives. We “ohhhhhhhhhhhhh and we ahhhhhhhhhhhh” and we cheered when the issues were resolved. I sat there and thank God that I have not had to deal with such situations.

Once court was officially adjourned; I was taken back to meet Judge Lake and she was so gracious. She shared that this is the second season of “Paternity Court” and that’s it is now being branded as “Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court”. She says that the day was extremely long but she’s happy about being able to help families resolve conflict and have the life they deserve!
