I recently had the opportunity to attend a private screening of “Get On Up.” The one word that comes to my mind is EPIC! This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen in my whole life. The OSCAR should go to Chadwick Boseman because he became James Brown. The opening scene of the movie you quickly you forget you are watching Chadwick Boseman because he becomes the story of the “Godfather of Soul.”
The “hardest working man in show business” was honored in one of the most anticipated biopics of the year, “Get On Up.” Before the movie actually began, so many questions ran through mind. Would these characters be able to capture the essence of James Brown’s life? His story, and not the one that is cut and molded to cater to a paticular audience, but his actual story? It is hard to be able to pull of the life of musical genius such as him, but Chadwick Boseman pulled it off!
The “42” actor held NOTHING back in his performance. If you have never noticed Boseman before, then you will after this movie. We were able to see the humble beginnings of Brown, which started us off in Barnwell, SC. His childhood was one that brought tears to your eyes! Not only does he encounter the troubles of being black in the south, but his home life was not any better. Honestly, the children (twins) playing the younger Brown conveyed the emotions of a helpless child. Every time I saw them, I wanted to cry.
