The past few weeks, I have had on my heart our lives as busy women. Yes, you know what I am talking about, and if you need a reminder whip out that iPhone, click the calendar app, and you will know that YOU to are busy.

I am 100% guilty of being caught up with “doing life”, that I have had to be intentional with slowing down and reminding myself to be “present in my life”. My constant reminder comes from the story of Mary and Martha (self-admitted Martha over here).

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42 NLT)

Martha was so busy being the hostess with the mostess, that she forgot who she was hosting the Son of God in her home. Now equate that to your life, what are you so busy working up to, that you are forgetting to be in the moment:
You go to the mall with your mother for that quality girl time, but your so caught up with what you have to do next, that you don’t take a moment to soak in the quality time with the woman who raised you.
That girlfriend who really needs a shoulder to cry on, but you are ready to go out with your other girlfriends, and you really don’t want to hear it.
Or you go to your kids baseball game, but the entire time you are on that lovely smartphone texting your friends or responding to emails that you miss that hit that wins the game for the team.
These are just a few examples, but I am sure you get the point. Our life is not supposed to be one of being a busy body, but rather one of abundance. Living a life of balance, not regret. You only get this one day, one moment, ever in a lifetime. I encourage you to sit and soak in all that God’s has planned for you. Be in the moment, not just “there”.
*Disclaimer: This may mean picking and choosing weekly those things that are of importance (those relationships needing to be nurtured or those organizations to support), but I promise, those things you decide to say “yes” to will be well worth it in the long run.
We all can’t be a Mary 100% of the time, but we sure can try!
Peace and Blessings!
